Grandchildren and Disney
April 1, 2018
I am one of those people who do not quite get the obsession
others have for Disney. We had great weather- not too hot, sunny and a breeze.
The crowds were horrific as it was spring break for many. Greta and Mike were
really savvy about “Fastpass” and how to work the system in order to avoid
standing in long lines. Steve and Mike definitely loved it more than Greta and
me and the kids were not ready to leave in the late afternoon. At Magic Kingdom
I did some rides that, although short, I will never do again. The short part
meant I did not get sick, only queasy. My greatest enjoyment was watching
Lexi’s and Chase’s eyes during shows and rides. Both Greta and I preferred
rides down the lazy river on a tube followed by a pina colada on a recliner in
the shade. Aaaawwwsome!
One night Lexi and Chase (ages 7 and 5) spent in the RV with
us. For them it was as good as a Disney ride. They got to sit in the front seat
while we took a ride to dump the gray water. They got to push buttons to make
the shade come down over the windshield and watch the slides come in for the
ride and back out for the night. Toys all over the floor, the sofa bed out,
armadillo , deer, and raccoon sightings, a lovely playground--- it was great
for them and me. The RV park was large, every site was spaced far apart, wide
sandy paths, huge oak trees, - all was so beautiful.
All their bedding was put into their "fort" in the morning. |
The last night we were with them, we ate at a place called
Lafayette Music Room where a man named Micah Reed was playing live music. He
was so good, playing oldies we could sing along with and one of his own songs,
at Steve’s request. We had such a good time that we stayed later than what we had
planned. Goodbyes were said as they were flying back to VA and we were leaving
to go north.
Because we did not have continuous gray tank drainage at
that park , I did not do laundry for a whole week. 8 loads later- our wash
machine is small - I think I have caught up.
Last night we met a man who lives at the park full-time
while he does a welding job in Tallahassee. He pays $450/month which includes
water and electricity and sewer and trash pick-up. He says he could get a hotel
for $300/month but would not enjoy his surroundings or eat as well as he does
in his camper. He comes from a fundamentalist polygamist family in Utah and
made no effort to hide he was happy to not be there anymore.
The AC is running and it feels great in Chatahoochee,
Florida!
P.S. Had to drive to the tiny town of Chatahoochee to find
internet at Hardee’s in order to post this.
